Renewing your Tennessee server permit
Server permits issued since January 1, 2025 are valid for two (2) years from the date of issue. Permits issued before January 1, 2025 are valid for five (5) years from the date of issue. To keep serving after yours expires, you need a new permit, and that means a course approved by the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) and a new application in RLPS, TABC's online permit system.
When does your permit expire?
Count from the date TABC issued your permit.
| Permit issued | Valid for | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Before January 1, 2025 | Five years | Issued in June 2023, expires in June 2028 |
| January 1, 2025 or later | Two years | Issued in June 2025, expires in June 2027 |
You can see your permit by logging in to RLPS and opening My Records, or in the MyTN app if you've added it there. MyTN shows when a permit has expired.
Getting your next permit
Your next permit is a new permit, so it takes a new application and a new course. Each application needs a TABC-approved course of at least 3.5 hours, completed within one year of the application date.
- Log in to RLPS on a computer. If you can't get in, call the TABC help desk at 615-532-2297.
- Start a new server permit application and pay TABC's $20 application fee. RLPS gives the new application its own RLPS number.
- Buy our course. If you're new to us, enter the RLPS number from your new application when you sign up. If you've taken our course before, your account still has your old number. Before you take the final exam, sign in at tnserverpermits.com, open your account's profile, and change the TABC RLPS Record Number field to your new application's number. TABC's system won't accept a score filed under a number that's already tied to an active permit.
- Pass the final exam. We send your passing score to TABC within two business days, once we have a valid RLPS number for you. TABC sets its own review timing.
- Once TABC approves your application, print your new permit from RLPS or add it to the MyTN app.
Start before your permit expires
Start before your expiration date. A server who let a permit expire doesn't get the 61-day grace period that new servers get, so once your permit expires you can't serve alcohol until your new permit is issued.
What it costs
Each new permit costs the same as the first. You pay TABC's $20 application fee with every application. At today's prices, our course is $36, including the $15 state filing fee, so a new permit costs $56 in total with us.
If you took our course, we'll email you before your permit expires.
